Tamil Actress Priyamani gets National Award

Priyamani, pretty actress from Tamil film industry gets the National Award for her amazing performance as a country side girl in the movie Paruthi Veeran. A popular romance sequence from the movie is show cased below.



The movie was directed by Ameer, a noted director from the new generation in the Tamil industry. Ram was his previous hit. His selection of Priyamani for the Muthalagu character has paid off well with the massive hit and national award now. Paired with Priyamani, the new face who did debut into Tamil movie was Karthik, the second son of Actor Sivakumar and brother of Surya. His performance in the film was also appreciated well from the industry and audience that Super Star Rajini made a special mention about it in the speech delivered during the last state award distribution ceremony.

Added information on Priyamani is that she was introduced by Bharathiraja, the veteran Director of early ages known for bringing performing new faces to Tamil industry. Brilliant actress of yesteryears like Sridevi and Radhika were introduced by him and their success in career is well known to all. Falling in line is Priyamani, having achieved this National award, she will find more opportunities to entertain the Tamil audience.

Study Abroad - Education Fair in Chennai on 13 & 14 June 2008

Students and parents looking for information on education courses and institutions abroad, would find this information as a boon.

International Education Fair 2008 is the place where you will find many foreign education institutions that show case their facilities, courses and other information for admission. Students aspiring to get admission from the participating institutions can interact with the respective representatives in the fair. The fair will be held for two days at the Taj Connemara Hotel, Chennai during the weekend i.e., on Friday and Saturday, 13th and 14th June 2008. The event is sponsored by State Bank of India.

The fair will be inaugurated by the Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu, Mr. N. Ram, who will witness the participation of education representatives from countries across the world. Premium institutes and consultants from the UK, Australia, the USA, Singapore, Dubai, New Zealand, Canada and the Philippines will set up stalls to inform students about career options available overseas. State Bank of India is also expected to set up a special stall on both days to inform students and parents about its various education loan schemes that can help finance education abroad.

Some of the popular institutions namely The University of Leeds (UK), the University of Warwick (UK), London Metropolitan University (UK), the University of Wollongong (Dubai), Dubai Aerospace Enterprise University (Dubai), Stansfield College (Singapore) are participating in this fair. Following are the areas of specialisation that students can look for in the fair - Engineering, medicine, design, media, management, arts and fashion, aquaculture and marine, tourism and hospital management.

Petroleum and Gas Price Hike in Chennai

Govt. of India announced the hike in petrol price on 4th June 2008, following the soaring price of crude oil in the international market. The hike announced has made the petrol and diesel costlier by Rs.5.00 and Rs.3.00 respectively. As usual many newspapers and politicians started debating the components of the petrol price and finally Central Govt. recommended the state governments to reduce the sales tax to reduce the burden on the common man.

The history of petrol price hike in Chennai shows an absolute increase of 77.36% in the last 6 years (Rs.31.05 in 2002 and 57.07 in 2008). The historic price data as available on the Indian Oil website gives the following information.

LPG cylinders used for cooking are also not spared. The price of cylinders are hiked by about Rs.50/- to cost Rs.339.60 in Chennai which is the lowest price tag among four metros, as it appears on the IOC website. In January 2004 it was Rs.248.55 which has seen a hike of 33.63% in the last 4 years.

It is too obvious for the world community that we should do away with petroleum products and and find ways to use alternate sources of energy and fuel to replace petroleum. But none of the nations give priority to this except for their ambitious talks during such price surge in international market. Developed nations should keep their nuclear agenda away and take the issue of replacing petroleum on top priority to invent a renewable source of energy.
